Sindhu Leads India's Charge in Swiss Open Showdown

Basel, Switzerland, March 18 (ANI): Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will lead the Indian contingent at the Swiss Open badminton championship, which begins on Tuesday at St Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.

The Swiss Open, a BWF Super 300 event, will feature a match between world-ranked 16th player PV Sindhu, who won the Swiss Open in 2022, and her fellow Indian and world-ranked 28th player Malvika Bansod in the women's singles opening round. This encounter marks an all-India showdown, according to Olympics.com.

In the tournament's women's singles category, Indian participants include Anupama Upadhyaya, Aakarshi Kashyap, and Rakshitha Ramraj.

In the men's singles event, there is an additional intra-Indian match scheduled for the opening round. World No. 15 Lakshya Sen, who holds the top position among Indian badminton players, will face HS Prannoy, the champion of the 2016 Swiss Open.

Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George are participating in the men's singles event for India. There are no Indian teams listed in the men's doubles competition.

World ranked ninth player Treesa Jolly along with Gayatri Gopichand will be competing in the women’s doubles event. Additionally, Indian participants include Priya Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra and Varshini Viswanath Sri-Arathi Sara Sunil as the other double teams.

Ashith Surya-Amrutha Pramuthesh and Sathish Karunakaran-Aadya Variyath, these two mixed doubles teams from India, will also compete in the main event.

For the men's and women's singles events, the number one seeds are China's Shi Yu Qi and Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong.
