Nairobi - On April 6, a Sunday service at PCEA Mwiki Church in Kasarani East turned chaotic when unknown assailants invaded the sanctuary during the presence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The ceremony started calmly but was suddenly disrupted when a bunch of young people barged into the premises, with several carrying clubs and appearing prepared for confrontation.

The footage shared online depicts assailants hurling rocks from beyond the church boundary, with others managing to enter the grounds, leading to chaos amongst those present for worship.

Despite the tension, Gachagua remained seated inside the church as some congregants fled in fear. The brief chaos escalated until men, believed to be part of Gachagua’s security detail, intervened, firing gunshots into the air to disperse the rowdy group and restore order.

In the midst of the conflict, cries of death threats echoed through the air, as bystanders looked on in stunned disbelief.

The disruption, lasting under an hour, was ultimately brought under control, enabling the resumption of services.

Gachauga hasn't made any statements regarding this incident. This assault follows increasing worries about his safety due to multiple public disputes and his allegations of being pursued by unidentified assailants since he had a disagreement with President William Ruto.
